Sujeet Kumar was born and raised in Bhabua, a small town in Bihar. Overcoming profound economic constraints, Sujeet gained admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering in 2003. Joining Flipkart in its earliest formative years in 2008, Sujeet became President of Operations, building Ekart and managing over 80% of Flipkart's physical logistics, fulfillment centers, and distribution networks. Sujeet developed legendary operational mastery over Indian freight lanes, railway hubs, and last-mile delivery grids. He realized that while consumer e-commerce was booming, the massive $800 Billion domestic business-to-business (B2B) trade between small manufacturers and neighborhood kiranas remained trapped in centuries-old credit mafias and fragmented wholesale mandis.

Act II: The Genesis Bet & Counter-Intuitive Architecture

In 2016, alongside fellow Flipkart senior leaders Amod Malviya and Vaibhav Gupta, Sujeet co-founded Udaan. Sujeet took command of logistics, supply-chain network design, and category operations. Their founding thesis was revolutionary: build an open horizontal B2B trade marketplace that connects small manufacturers, farmers, and mills directly with small retailers and kirana stores across tier-2, tier-3, and rural India.

Act III: Zero-to-One Product Market Fit & The Valley of Death

B2B commerce in India runs on informal credit. Small kirana grocers could not buy inventory without 15 to 30 days of trade credit. Sujeet and the founding team built UdaanCapital—securing an NBFC license to underwrite data-backed micro-credit directly to small shopkeepers. Paired with reliable 24-to-48-hour delivery of staple grains, packaged FMCG, electronics, and apparel directly to shop doorsteps, Udaan became an indispensable commercial lifeline for millions of small businesses.

Act IV: The Flywheel of Scale & Strategic Moats

Udaan made global venture capital history by becoming the fastest Indian startup to reach unicorn status, surpassing a $1 Billion valuation in just 26 months. Backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, DST Global, GGV Capital, and Altimeter Capital, Udaan raised over $1.5 Billion, scaling its network to over 3 million retailers and 30,000 manufacturers across 1,000+ cities in India, operating millions of square feet of warehousing.

Act V: Asymmetric Inflection Points & Cultural Impact

Sujeet Kumar played an essential role in democratizing Indian wholesale commerce. Udaan leveled the playing field for small town kiranas, allowing a small grocer in remote Bihar or Odisha to source goods at the same wholesale prices and quality as massive supermarket chains.
