Abhiraj Singh Bhal graduated with a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur before earning an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. Following a high-impact consulting stint at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Bhal was determined to solve one of the most chaotic consumer markets in emerging Asia: finding reliable, vetted home service professionals like plumbers, electricians, and beauticians.
In 2014, alongside Varun Khaitan and Raghav Chandra, Bhal launched UrbanClap. Rather than operating as an open classifieds directory, Bhal made the radical decision to control the full stack: training service partners, standardizing pricing, providing professional tools, and offering consumer warranties.
Urban Company reached unicorn status in 2021 at a $2.8 billion valuation. Backed by Prosus, Accel, Tiger Global, and Vy Capital, Bhal has championed worker empowerment, granting stock options to service professionals and building India's largest organized vocational training infrastructure.
