Hjalmar Nilsonne studied engineering physics and business at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm and the Stockholm School of Economics. Prior to Einride, Nilsonne founded Watty, an AI-powered home energy monitoring startup that analyzed domestic electrical signatures.
Recognizing that road freight accounts for approximately 7% of total global carbon emissions and is plagued by persistent driver shortages, Nilsonne had a radical realization: electric commercial trucks should not merely replace internal combustion engines—they should be autonomous and cab-less from day one. In 2016, alongside Robert Falck and Filip Lilja, Nilsonne formed Einride.
In 2019, Einride's 'Pod' became the first completely driverless electric truck permitted to operate on public roads. Einride also developed Einride Saga, an operating system coordinating charging, routing, and telemetry for enterprise fleets including GE Appliances, Oatly, and Maersk. Backed by EQT Ventures, Northzone, and Temasek, Einride is defining the next century of zero-emission freight.
