USC Rocket Propulsion Lab to Blue Origin
Tim Ellis studied aerospace engineering at the University of Southern California, leading the student-run Rocket Propulsion Lab. He worked as a propulsion engineer at Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin, designing 3D-printed components for the BE-4 rocket engine.
The Inception of Relativity Space
In 2015, Ellis and Jordan Noone founded Relativity Space with a bold vision: to build the world’s first entire 3D-printed orbital rocket, replacing 100,000 discrete aerospace components with a unified printed airframe.
Stargate 3D Printers & Terran R
Relativity developed Stargate, the largest metal 3D printer on Earth. In 2023, its Terran 1 rocket successfully reached space, paving the way for the fully reusable, heavy-lift Terran R rocket.
