Mithun Sacheti grew up in a prominent family of traditional Chennai jewellers, owners of Jaipur Gems. After completing his Gemology certification from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in California, Mithun returned to India with an insider's mastery of the diamond trade. However, he was repulsed by the traditional industry's inefficiencies: exorbitant retail markups, opaque diamond pricing, and heavy wedding jewellery that stayed locked in bank vaults for 360 days a year. He envisioned an accessible, modern, lightweight diamond revolution.

Act II: The Genesis Bet

In 2008, Mithun founded CaratLane in Chennai alongside Avnish Anand. His premise was radical: bypass brick-and-mortar middlemen, source diamonds directly from manufacturers, and sell certified diamond jewellery online at 20-30% lower prices than traditional legacy jewelers.

Act III: Zero-to-One PMF

Mithun brought deep supplier relationships and manufacturing craftsmanship to CaratLane. He built an integrated manufacturing facility in Chennai that utilized 3D printing and precision laser setting to produce lightweight, everyday gold and diamond rings, pendants, and earrings. In 2011, Lee Fixel's Tiger Global recognized Mithun's genius, investing early venture capital into CaratLane.

Act IV: The Flywheel of Scale

Mithun established a historic corporate partnership with Titan Company (part of the Tata Group), which acquired a minority stake in CaratLane in 2016. Combining CaratLane's agile digital design speed with Titan's legendary brand trust, Mithun expanded CaratLane's omnichannel boutique footprint across India, generating hundreds of crores in profitable growth.

Act V: Crucible of Fire & Inflection Points

In August 2023, Mithun Sacheti achieved legendary status in Indian corporate lore: selling his family's remaining 27.18% stake in CaratLane to Titan for ₹4,621 crore ($555 million) in an all-cash deal. It marked the second-largest all-cash exit ever achieved by an Indian startup founder, crowning Mithun as one of India's wealthiest self-made retail titans.

Act VI: Ecosystem Architecture

Following his monumental exit, Mithun became a major institutional capital allocator and anchor investor in top-tier venture funds. He actively invests in early-stage consumer brands, retail supply chains, and manufacturing startups, sharing lessons on capital efficiency, supplier trust, and corporate negotiation.

Mithun is focused on fostering India's next generation of consumer giants.
