A self-taught coder from Rågsved, Stockholm, Daniel Ek created his first commercial website at age 14 and became a self-made millionaire in his early twenties after selling Advertigo to TradeDoubler.
Teaming up with TradeDoubler co-founder Martin Lorentzon in 2006, Ek launched Spotify on a daring hypothesis: that if music could be streamed instantly with zero latency, legal accessibility would outcompete illegal file-sharing. Overcoming massive record label resistance, Ek took Spotify public on the NYSE via an unprecedented direct listing, expanding into podcasts, audiobooks, and artificial intelligence audio generation.
