Ankur Singla graduated from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, in 2007. After working as a corporate lawyer with Linklaters in London, Ankur was troubled by how difficult it was for ordinary Indian consumers to resolve complaints against telecom providers, airlines, and consumer brands. In 2010, Ankur returned to India to launch Akosha, an online consumer dispute resolution and legal complaint platform.

Act II: The Genesis Bet

In 2015, observing that consumers were increasingly texting companies rather than sending emails, Ankur made a daring pivot: transforming Akosha into Helpchat, a conversational concierge app powered by AI and human operators. When Sequoia Capital invested $16 million in the venture, Ankur noticed an emerging friction: Indian smartphone users with budget phones lacked storage space to download 30 different apps for cabs, food, flights, and bills.

Act III: Zero-to-One PMF

In 2016, Ankur rebranded Helpchat into Tapzo: India's very first 'All-in-One Super-App.' Tapzo allowed users to book Ola and Uber cabs, order food via Swiggy and Zomato, recharge phones, and read news through a single lightweight app without installing multiple heavy applications. Tapzo scaled rapidly to over 5 million downloads, processing tens of thousands of daily consumer transactions.

Act IV: The Flywheel of Scale

Tapzo's technological integrations and conversational commerce attracted global tech giants. In 2018, in a landmark strategic acquisition, Amazon acquired Tapzo for approximately $40 million. Amazon integrated Tapzo's team and conversational software directly into Amazon Pay India, powering utility bill payments, travel bookings, and recharges inside the Amazon India app.

Act V: Crucible of Fire & Inflection Points

Following the successful integration with Amazon, Ankur spent several years helping scale Amazon Pay's consumer engagement across millions of Indian households. His journey through multiple corporate pivots—from legal tech (Akosha) to conversational concierge (Helpchat) to super-app (Tapzo) to Amazon acquisition—remains one of the most studied agility masterclasses in Indian tech history.
