Act I: The Catalyst

Avnish Anand graduated from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow and completed his Bachelor's in Statistics from Hindu College, University of Delhi. After working in financial services with Standard Chartered Bank and consulting with DuPont, Avnish was fascinated by the early rumblings of digital retail in 2007. When traditional jewellers insisted that diamonds could only be sold in heavy, intimidating family jewel showrooms, Avnish saw an immense demographic shift: modern working women wanted affordable, lightweight, contemporary fine jewellery for everyday wear.

Act II: The Genesis Bet

In 2008, Avnish joined forces with Mithun Sacheti as a co-founder to launch CaratLane. Avnish took charge of digital product, performance marketing, and technological operations. The task was considered nearly impossible: convincing conservative Indian consumers to purchase real gold and certified diamond rings over the internet with credit cards.

Act III: Zero-to-One PMF

Avnish built a foundation of radical consumer trust: partnering with international gemological labs (GIA and IGI) to certify every diamond, displaying live gold price breakups on product pages, and introducing a groundbreaking 'Try at Home' service—where a CaratLane executive brought selected jewellery pieces directly to a customer's living room for physical inspection before purchase.

Act IV: The Flywheel of Scale

Recognizing that luxury purchases require physical touchpoints, Avnish spearheaded CaratLane's pioneering omnichannel retail strategy: opening sleek, modern boutiques in premium shopping districts. In 2016, Indian corporate icon Titan Company (Tata Group) acquired a strategic stake in CaratLane. Over the next seven years, Avnish scaled CaratLane's offline store network to more than 270 standalone stores across 100+ Indian cities, scaling annual revenues past ₹2,100 crore with remarkable operational profitability.

Act V: Crucible of Fire & Inflection Points

In August 2023, Avnish orchestrated the grand culmination of CaratLane's journey: Titan acquired the remaining founder stake in CaratLane for an astonishing ₹4,621 crore ($555 million)—valuing the company at over ₹17,000 crore in one of the most lucrative cash exits in Indian retail history. Following the acquisition, Avnish was elevated to Chief Executive Officer, continuing to steer CaratLane under the Tata umbrella.

Act VI: Ecosystem Architecture

Avnish Anand is revered as a master architect of omnichannel consumer retail. He demonstrated how an agile digital startup could partner with a legacy conglomerate (Tata/Titan) to create unprecedented enterprise value. As an active angel investor, Avnish mentors next-generation retail tech and consumer lifestyle founders.

Act VII: The Long Horizon

Avnish is focused on scaling CaratLane to a multi-billion-dollar global fine jewellery brand. By deploying virtual try-on augmented reality, personalized AI jewellery design recommendations, and international flagships in the US and Middle East, Avnish continues to modernize the ancient art of fine jewellery.
