Archit Gupta completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Guwahati and earned his Master's in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Working in Silicon Valley as a software engineer at Data Domain (acquired by EMC), Archit observed the transformative power of clean, consumer-grade software applied to complex enterprise problems. In 2011, Archit founded ClearTax (now Clear) in New Delhi. His premise was radical: allow individual Indian citizens to file their income tax returns in under seven minutes simply by uploading their Form 16 PDF, with software automatically parsing salary breakdowns, deductions, and tax liabilities. In 2014, ClearTax became the first India-focused startup to be selected for the elite Y Combinator accelerator in Silicon Valley, securing early backing from global venture icons including Peter Thiel's Founders Fund and Sequoia Capital.

Act III: Zero-to-One PMF

ClearTax achieved explosive consumer adoption by turning an agonizing bureaucratic chore into a delightful, two-click digital experience. When India implemented the historic Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime in July 2017, Archit recognized an unprecedented macroeconomic inflection point. He pivoted Clear's engineering muscle toward building enterprise GST compliance software. Within months, hundreds of thousands of Indian businesses—from local traders to Fortune 500 multinationals—relied on Clear to reconcile invoices, compute input tax credits, and file error-free monthly GST returns.

The GST transition catapulted Clear into mission-critical status. As government APIs frequently updated and regulatory mandates shifted on short notice, Archit built an agile engineering culture capable of rolling out compliant software patches within hours. When enterprise clients faced severe cash flow crunches due to delayed vendor invoices, Archit launched Clear Invoice Discounting and working capital solutions, partnering with tier-1 banks to unlock instant liquidity against verified digital invoices.

Rebranding from ClearTax to Clear, Archit broadened the corporate charter to encompass an all-in-one financial operating system: Clear GST, Clear e-Invoicing, Clear Identity, and Clear Finance. As an influential thought leader, Archit works closely with regulatory bodies to streamline digital taxation.
