Jeffrey Brian Straubel completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in energy systems engineering at Stanford University. He spent his early twenties modifying electric Porsche conversions and developing hybrid electric powertrains.
Co-Founding Tesla & 15 Years as CTO
Straubel introduced Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning to Elon Musk in 2003, co-founding Tesla. As CTO until 2019, Straubel led the architecture of Tesla’s battery packs, the Supercharger network, and the Nevada Gigafactory.
Redwood Materials: Closing the Loop
In 2017, Straubel founded Redwood Materials in Carson City, Nevada, creating North America’s largest circular supply chain for lithium-ion batteries by recycling end-of-life cells into anode copper foil and cathode active materials, valued at over $5 billion.
