Act I: The Catalyst

Gazal Kalra graduated in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi and completed a joint MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Master's in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School. Before entering entrepreneurship, Gazal worked as a business consultant at McKinsey & Company and advised the Government of Rajasthan and international policy think-tanks. Her exposure to public policy and industrial supply chains illuminated an acute bottleneck: India's road freight sector was crippled by structural inefficiencies, rampant corruption at state borders, and extreme driver exploitation.

Act II: The Genesis Bet

In 2014, alongside Deepak Garg, Gazal co-founded Rivigo. Their founding premise was audacious: rebuild Indian highway trucking from the ground up through a patented 'Relay Trucking' operational framework. Instead of a single driver staying with a vehicle for weeks across the country, Rivigo fragmented routes into 250-km legs where drivers swapped vehicles at designated pit-stops—allowing truck drivers to return home to their families every single night while trucks operated around the clock.

Act III: Zero-to-One PMF

Gazal took charge of corporate strategy, talent, culture, and business development. She spent countless hours on national highways and pit-stops, convincing traditional truck drivers that relay driving was a permanent, dignified profession with fixed salaries, healthcare, and insurance. Client reception was ecstatic: major automotive and pharmaceutical manufacturers found that Rivigo cut delivery transit times between Delhi and Bangalore from six days to under 40 hours.

Act IV: The Flywheel of Scale

Under Gazal's strategic leadership, Rivigo expanded its fleet to thousands of IoT-connected trucks. The company raised over $280 million from tier-1 institutional investors including Warburg Pincus and SAIF Partners. In September 2019, Rivigo achieved unicorn status at a valuation of $1.05 billion—making Gazal one of the very few women co-founders of a B2B logistics unicorn in global venture history.

Act V: Crucible of Fire & Inflection Points

When capital markets tightened and vehicle debt servicing became challenging, Gazal helped orchestrate Rivigo's transition into an asset-light tech marketplace (NFX - National Freight Exchange). In 2021, after seven years of operational leadership, Gazal stepped down from executive roles, having permanently elevated the working conditions and social status of tens of thousands of Indian truck drivers.

Act VI: Ecosystem Architecture

Gazal Kalra is celebrated as an iconic role model for women in hardware, supply chain, and deep-tech entrepreneurship. She frequently speaks at international policy forums including Harvard, Stanford, and the World Economic Forum on women's workforce participation, clean mobility, and logistics modernization.
