MIT Computer Science & The USB Epiphany
Drew Houston graduated from MIT with a degree in computer science. In 2007, while riding a Chinatown bus from Boston to New York, he realized he had forgotten his USB drive, leaving his code and documents stranded at home.
Coding Dropbox on the Bus
Right on the bus, Houston began writing the synchronization engine that became Dropbox. Accepted into Y Combinator, he famously declined an acquisition offer from Steve Jobs, who told him Dropbox was "a feature, not a product."
Decade of Scale & NASDAQ IPO
Houston proved Jobs wrong, growing Dropbox past 700 million registered users and taking the company public on the NASDAQ in 2018, operating as a profitable enterprise collaboration titan.
