Act I: The Catalyst

Amit Gupta graduated in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 2000. An innate problem solver, Amit spent his early career at Trilogy and other software firms before co-founding InMobi alongside Naveen Tewari, Abhay Singhal, and Mohit Saxena in 2007. Over the next decade, Amit played a pivotal leadership role as President of North America and Head of Global Revenue, driving InMobi's expansion into a multi-billion-dollar global adtech titan. However, as Bangalore's choking traffic congestion and air pollution worsened year after year, Amit experienced a powerful environmental awakening: he wanted to dedicate the next chapter of his life to solving urban congestion and air pollution.

Act II: The Genesis Bet

In 2017, Amit stepped down from his executive operational role at InMobi to launch Yulu in Bangalore. His mission was to pioneer electric micro-mobility for Indian cities. Starting with shared dockless bicycles, Amit quickly realized that solving Indian urban transport required purpose-built, lightweight electric two-wheelers powered by an interconnected battery-swapping infrastructure. He introduced the Yulu Miracle—a smart, compact, low-speed electric vehicle specifically tailored for short-distance urban commuters and delivery riders.

Act III: Zero-to-One PMF

Amit faced severe operational skepticism: critics claimed that shared two-wheelers would be vandalized or stolen on Indian streets. Amit countered by developing an IoT-connected fleet management system: every Yulu vehicle was equipped with GPS, remote immobilization, and real-time battery diagnostics. Crucially, when quick-commerce and food delivery surged through platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, and Blinkit, gig delivery workers adopted Yulu in droves because its electric rentals eliminated fuel costs and maintenance headaches.

Act IV: The Flywheel of Scale

To power this massive electric fleet, Amit forged a landmark strategic partnership with Indian automotive giant Bajaj Auto, which invested in Yulu and collaborated on manufacturing custom electric vehicles. Amit established Yuma Energy, a joint venture battery-as-a-service network that deployed hundreds of automated battery-swapping stations across Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurgaon, enabling riders to swap depleted batteries for fully charged ones in under 60 seconds.

Act V: Crucible of Fire & Inflection Points

The COVID-19 pandemic temporarily paralyzed public transportation and shared mobility. Amit swiftly pivoted Yulu's fleet toward essential delivery logistics, partnering with e-commerce portals to keep supply chains running. Post-pandemic, Yulu raised an $82 million Series B round led by Mobility54 and Magna International, scaling its fleet to over 40,000 electric vehicles and completing tens of millions of green rides.

Act VI: Ecosystem Architecture

Amit is a double-unicorn pedigree builder—having co-founded InMobi and created India's undisputed leader in shared electric micro-mobility. As an active angel investor, Amit has backed pioneering startups including Dunzo and ShareChat, and is a passionate advocate for green mobility policies and clean energy adoption across India.

Act VII: The Long Horizon

Amit's vision is to make Indian urban mobility clean, shared, and autonomous. Yulu is expanding its fleet across 15+ Indian cities while scaling Yuma Energy into India's largest EV battery swapping network. By preventing millions of kilograms of carbon emissions, Amit is building a sustainable mobility infrastructure that ensures India's cities can breathe and grow for generations to come.
